In regards to illustrating that the person will only have the balls of their feet in the stirrup, this is not personally how I find it comfortable to ride and I feel more comfortable having my feet more like the first 'incorrect' illustration, otherwise I feel like my feet are slipping out. It could be any number of factors that could contribute to this, including incorrect length of the stirrup, but it is none the less how I feel comfortable riding, and therefore how someone's illustrated character may feel comfortable riding as well.
But otherwise this is wonderful reference, and I thank you for making it.

You're right about drawing horses without getting to know them. But doesn't matter if people draw them or not, they should know a bit of these beautiful creatures. There are some kids in South African cities that think horses lay eggs
